And if you buy the notion that your career is going to rise and fall based upon your ability to lead people, both within and beyond your authority, within and beyond your team, then I think what you also have to buy is that it comes down to your ability to produce honest conversations about the real issues and opportunities to make things better, I E. Get to candor. And that skill set is what the students after Ron’s class were really looking for. Because when I want to mobilize someone to face the real issue, how do I actually say it so I don’t become the issue? Or how do I actually say it so somebody doesn’t become so defensive that we can’t actually talk about the important thing that we need to talk about?
